Basquiat gained international recognition by creating powerful and expressive works that confronted issues of racism, identity and social tension. Although his career was cut short by his untimely death at age 27, his groundbreaking drawings and paintings continue to challenge perceptions, provoke vital dialogues and empower us to think critically about the world around us Basquiat received massive acclaim in only a few short years, showing alongside artists like Julian Schnabel, David Salle, and Francesco Clemente. In 1983, he met Andy Warhol, who would come to be a mentor and idol. The two collaborated on a series of paintings before Warhol’s death in 1987, followed by Basquiat’s own untimely passing a year later. Project Description This project was a school based assignment that required me to chose an artist and design a monograph showcasing their work. The design of this publication was inspired by Basquiat's striking and unrefined art style. I, however am an advocate for structure and order so while iterating designs for this publication I tried to achieve a middle ground of both "disorder and structure."
